InkTober #1 #2

I missed the first day of InkTober, but I'm going to catch up by posting two for today! Last night instead of inking I went and saw The Martian. It was a great movie, I highly recommended it! It has a great emotional story that takes the viewer along for the ride. I may even go head and buy the book it was adapted from! The story follows stranded NASA astronaut Mark Watney on Mars, and his journey of surviving the red planet.

The first ink I did for the month was a potato plant. In the movie Mark tries to grow potatoes on Mars to keep his food source going. I ink this one traditionally, and looking at it, I probably should have spent a tad bit longer on it.

The second ink I did for this month, I did completely digital in Sketch Book Pro. It was fun doing it digital but I found myself spending more time on it then originally plan since the erase tool can erase any mistakes I make. When I ink traditionally, there is no easy way to get rid of a unwanted line so I just keep moving forward.

I think for this Inktober I may try to focus completely on my comic project I started, instead of a new subject every day. Will see how it goes.

Until tomorrow,

Post InkTober

31 days of inking and it was worth it! I really enjoyed this exercise because it taught me to loosen up my drawings. I try to only spend at max an hour from start to finish on these, so there wasn't much time to worry about every little mistake. I tend to work drawings over and over again till its exactly what I'm looking for. Which I'm not saying is a bad thing, but at the same time its a big time waster. Especially since I plan on making more art, and I can take what I learned from one project to the next. Plus, with this inking exercise, the next day I would be inking a brand new drawing.

Also I really enjoy doing some traditional inking. I usually do all my clean up and inking in Photoshop, so it was nice to lay down a sketch and then go over it with a few markers and ink brushes. At the same time, I had to trust myself to lay down that line since there was no going back. There are some drawings that I'm proud of, and then there are a few that I'm not sure what happen ha. It was worth it though. Till next time,

InkTober #30

InkTober #30 Tonight I had the opportunity to see the film Dracula (1931) in 35mm film thanks to the Atlanta Film Festival and Cinevision Screening Room. It was great! Before they screen it, they had a intro explaining some of the things you would see in the film and how viewers from back in the day would interrupter compared to viewers of today. Such as the way it was shot and some of the animals in the film. Then afterwards they showed a video clip of Universal Studios explaining how they restored the film to pass on to the new generations. If you have a chance to view Dracula or some 35mm film around town I would highly recommended it!

InkTober #25

InkTober #25 This is Fyllo, he was going to be the main character in the story with Pefko. The main problem I had with this guy was trying to figure out how to draw a plant on his head and make it look cool! Not only cool, but be able to draw it correctly from every angle, not just a few. Even drawing this quick sketch I had issues  with the plant ha. Maybe modeling it out in 3D, or building a reference would help.

InkTober #24

InkTober #24 Pefko is a character for a story I was planning awhile ago. I've only drawn him a couple times so his concept design isn't final yet.  I have his back story ready and how he would help the hero, but I wasn't what I wanted to say with Graphic Novel. I had major plot points set up, but that's it. Nothing to fill the gaps over the main story arc, no side quests, and not sure what each character would have to go through to achieve their goal. Maybe one day I'll go back to the story.

InkTober #23

InkTober #23 I wonder if I would draw as many monsters if we were in a different month doing this.

InkTober #20

InkTober #20 I started running out of ink half way though this one, but luckily I had a spare cartridge to use. Also got to use the old cartridge to make some circles in the background.

InkTober #18. I drew this one this morning, maybe that's why its a person sleeping instead of a creature of sorts ha.
